We’ve improved two key moments at the start of your learners’ language-learning journey: how they’re assigned to the correct course level, and how they schedule their instructor-led classes. Both are designed to get learners started faster, with fewer steps and more flexibility from the moment they log in.
1. A smarter Placement Test
Getting the starting level right shapes the learning path and influences how quickly learners see progress. We’ve rebuilt the Placement Test from the ground up to be more accurate, more relevant, and a truer reflection of each learner’s real-world ability.
This language assessment now evaluates learners across all 4 skills in a single, integrated session. Powered by AI, aligned to the CEFR, and built directly into the platform so learners can start their training on the same day. The assessment is available in six languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese), with more rolling out over the rest of the year.
2. A simpler way to schedule Virtual Coach classes
Learners in Virtual Coach programs with weekly classes are now automatically guided through a new self-service scheduling experience when they log in.
In a few simple steps, learners can:
- Confirm their profile details and review their program
- Choose a trainer first, or set their availability first:
- Browse a broad selection of compatible trainers, with an enhanced search to reconnect with trainers they’ve worked with before
- Or define their availability first, and the system surfaces compatible trainers and schedule options based on their slots
- Book a recurring schedule, no waiting and no back-and-forth
What stays the same? Everything learners expect: trainer quality, program content, class format and support are unchanged. The only difference is a smoother way to schedule at the start of the program. If a learner can’t find a suitable option, they can request help directly in the tool and our coordination team will assist.
Also new this quarter:
1. C2 level learning paths, now available in 3 new languages
Three languages now have a live first module at C2 level: Spanish, Italian, and German. C2 is the level where learners can truly hold their own: high-stakes negotiations, complex technical discussions, formal academic and professional discourse. It’s where the work becomes about nuance, register, and precision – the difference between fluent and truly proficient. This new path is built to take advanced learners exactly there, with the depth and rigor the level demands.
2. New Interpersonal Skills training content
Learners now have access to 20 courses and 10 webinars specifically focused on interpersonal skills, all designed to help professionals connect, empathize, and lead more effectively in a global workplace. These are available in five languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German), supported by the Interpersonal Skills Magazine for relevant news and industry knowledge.
3. Enhanced video conversations with Avatar AI Trainers
As learners work through activities, they’ll encounter Reading and Writing Production Cards — bite-sized exercises tied directly to their course material. Both now include instant AI feedback, giving learners a smarter starting point for reflection before completing their own self-assessment.
We have now made video conversations with Avatar AI Trainers available for all learners who have access to Fluency Lab, in our 6 core languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese). Learners have access to 5 video calls a month, and their limit renews on the first day of every calendar month. For non-English languages, we’ve introduced updated AI trainer voices that sound clearer and better reflect natural pronunciation and speech patterns in each target language.
